3 million pixels. 0.88 millimeter. Razor sharp.

The 12-inch Retina display on the new MacBook isn’t just picture perfect — it’s also paper thin. In fact, at just 0.88 millimeter, it’s the thinnest Retina display ever on a Mac. A specially developed automated manufacturing process forms the impossibly thin edge-to-edge glass that’s only 0.5 millimeter thick. And we reduced the space between display components for a tighter, more integrated design.

To deliver the gorgeous Retina experience on the sleek new MacBook, we had to innovate on every level, right down to the pixel. So we redesigned the pixels to create a larger aperture, allowing more light to pass through. This enabled us to use LED backlighting that’s 30 percent more energy efficient than the Retina display on any other Mac notebook, yet still achieve the same level of vivid brightness.

The world’s most energy-efficient notebook.2

Each aspect of the new MacBook — from the Retina display to the terraced battery to the advanced technologies of OS X — has been optimized to be as energy efficient as possible, with a typical energy consumption of 10.10 kWh per year. It also exceeds the low power requirements set by the EPA, giving it ENERGY STAR 6.1 qualification. And because the battery in the new MacBook requires less frequent charging, it leaves a smaller carbon footprint from day-to-day use.

Incredibly portable. With one amazing port.

To create a notebook as thin and light as the new MacBook, we had to strive for efficiency in every detail, right down to how it connects to peripherals and power. So we contributed to a new universal connectivity standard that combines the essential functions you need every day in one dynamic port. The amazing USB-C port offers charging, quick USB 3 data transfer for connecting to external devices and peripherals, and video output that supports HDMI, VGA, and DisplayPort connections. All in a small, reversible design that’s one-third the size of the current USB port.

Ultrafast all-flash storage. There’s a reason they call it “flash.”

Thanks to the superfast read and write performance of the PCle-based flash storage, you’ll notice a difference in whatever you do. Starting up is really fast, apps launch quickly, and navigating the desktop feels fluid and responsive.

The Force Touch trackpad. Press a little deeper, do a lot more.

The new Force Touch trackpad may look like other trackpads on the surface, but underneath it’s unlike anything that’s existed before. Force sensors detect how much pressure you’re applying, and the new Taptic Engine provides a click sensation when you press anywhere on the surface. Now the click that once was a single, mechanical function is just the start of what you can do with Force Touch. The sensory capabilities of the Force Touch trackpad allow you to tell your MacBook what you want it to do based on subtle differences in the amount of pressure you apply. This makes it possible to perform a variety of different actions in different apps, all on the same surface. And it can respond with haptic feedback you can actually feel, making your MacBook more usable and personal than ever before.

Traditional trackpads use a “diving board” mechanism, which requires room underneath for the downward motion of a click and makes it harder to click the part of the surface closest to the keyboard. With the Force Touch trackpad, force sensors detect your click anywhere on the surface and move the trackpad laterally toward you, although the feel is the same familiar downward motion you’re accustomed to in a trackpad. The Taptic Engine also provides haptic feedback, so instead of just seeing what’s happening on the screen, you can feel it, too. The trackpad sends a tangible response to your fingertip when you perform certain tasks, like aligning annotations on a PDF.

Innovation on every level.

To achieve all-day battery life,3 we needed to use every millimeter of space inside the slim MacBook enclosure. Traditional rectangular batteries leave unused space when placed in a curved enclosure, so we created a new type of battery technology that allowed for an innovative terraced battery cell, custom shaped to fit the specific contours of the enclosure. The result is 35 percent more battery cell capacity than would have been possible before. So all the available space in the enclosure is used, and you have all the battery life you need to get you through the day.

Battery Life & Condition

During the assessment stage of our system we use a measure we call the 80% rule. This rule is our boundary for battery replacement. Our technicians look at the full charge capacity of the laptop vs the design capacity as well as cycle count. If this falls below what we regard as less than 80% of the original battery life we fit the system with brand new battery.

How long will my battery last?

We anticipate that the minimum battery life of your system will be above 5h of general usage.

Please note this is not guaranteed as all users use their laptops in different ways. This figure is an average taken using a wide range of systems from different years.

Condition Grades

A

Systems classified as grade A we regard as being as good as new. These systems show only the minor signs of use on the external casing. All screens are checked and free of any inconsistencies or imperfections.

B

Our B grade condition systems will include minor visible cosmetic wear. This could include cosmetic imperfections such as scratches, scuffs or dents to the body. None of the issues interfere with the functionality of the system.

C

Anything we consider as grade C has clearly visible cosmetic wear. This includes deeper scratches and/or dents in the casing. Screens may also include imperfections such as dead pixels or blemishes and if applicable this is clearly stated.

If you’re budget conscious a C grade system can be the ideal solution for those looking to save and still have all the benefits and functionality of the Mac.

All systems provided come in 100% full working order and with our industry leading warranty. The conditions we describe below are only in relation to the cosmetic appearance of our machines. We never supply systems with technical faults unless clearly stated in the condition description. When pricing a system the condition grade is an attributing factor and a reduction of price will be seen on lower grades.

How much memory do I need?

Memory or ‘RAM’ is the short-term memory of your computer. Anything currently running on the computer will be using your RAM. Every safari page, word document and mail application uses a small amount. More advanced users who use professional applications will require more RAM.

Here is what we recommend:

How much storage do I need?

The amount of storage you need depends on what you plan on storing on your system. For non-professional users, we recommend 500GB as a healthy amount. Having a good amount of storage allows for plenty of space for photos, videos, documents and other data you will collect over the lifetime of the system. If you’re not an avid user of your computer, then 250-320GB can be all you need.

For professional users, we recommend increasing that amount. Once you start loading your music, samples, photos and videos, you can find that your drive will fill up fairly quickly if you’re not careful. Not to mention when you start creating projects, producing or editing and you add all the data associated. At minimum 500GB is recommend and if budget allows 1TB is ideal. In certain cases more may be necessary, if you’re not sure please contact our team.

What is an SSD?

An SSD or solid state drive is the next generation in storage. They are twice the speed of a conventional HDD (Hard Disk Drive). They also  contain no moving parts and are therefore safer and less likely to fail.

Why you would pick an SSD over a HDD;

  • – Faster load time of the system and files.
  • – High bandwidth (Allows you too load more at once).
  • – More responsive system (Applications will load quicker and perform actions faster).

Why you would pick a HDD over an SSD;

  • – More cost effective (SSDs can be expensive, especially at higher volumes).
  • – Larger sizes (You can get much larger HDDs than you can SSDs).
  • – Speed is not required (If you only use your computer for basic functions such as email or watching films the speed isn’t needed).
